Environment & Sustainability
Respect
As a business we operate with due respect and consideration for the environment. We believe our internal Environmental Management System, Waste Management Plan and Land Restoration Plan demonstrates our continuous commitment to the environment. We adhere to all applicable legislation, regulation and planning permission conditions.
Waste
Currently we recycle any waste material we produce such as tyres, pallets, burnt oil and metal. We have regular emissions testing carried out to ensure we comply with EPA limits under our planning permission conditions.
Energy Conservation & Carbon Footprint
At O’Connell Quarries are committed to energy conservation, reducing our carbon footprint and protecting the natural habitat of the area. All ready-mix we provide is Low Carbon Concrete. We use GGBS (Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag) in the production of all ready-mix. GGBS is a by-product of manufacture of iron. It has a much lower CO2 footprint than CME II or CEM I cement, the production involves virtually zero CO2 emissions and no emissions of SO2, NOx, CO and PM10. It also increases the resistance and enhances the durability of the finished product.
Sustainability
Our Sustainability Plan outlines the environmental and social commitments for O’Connell Quarries Ltd. The focus is to minimize environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, ensure safe and ethical practices, and contribute positively to surrounding communities while enabling long-term business resilience
