Clare and Tipperary County Council awarded the contract of constructing the 6.2km bypass and bridge over the River Shannon to John Sisk & Sons ltd, the first vehicular bridge crossing of the Shannon in over 30 years linking the towns of Killaloe and Ballina. The bridge officially opened on 22 nd May 2025 by Minister Darragh O’ Brien with the by-pass opening some months earlier. Over the duration of the project, we supplied approx. 500,000 tonnes of aggregates andapprox. 15,000 meters of concrete.
In March 2026 the Bridge won the Main Award in the Infrastructure Category at the 43 rd Irish Concrete Society Awards, theses awards have been dubbed the ‘Oscars of the Concrete Industry’ where excellence in design and construction is celebrated. We were delighted to accept the award as the Major Supplier for the bridge construction.
